Manchester United are reportedly looking to sign Benfica starlet Joao Neves this summer with Casemiro set to make a Saudi Pro League move.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 for a reported fee of over €70 million (£60.3m/$75.4m). However, the signing of the Brazilian superstar hasn't gone to plan and the club are now looking to part ways with the 32-year-old midfielder with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe looking to overhaul the squad after a disappointing season. Casemiro has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League and United already have a replacement lined up.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

As per Record Portugal, Man Utd's chosen replacement for Casemiro is Neves, who has had a breakout season with Benfica and is very highly rated by the Portuguese club and Ratcliffe's entourage. As per the report, Man Utd could offer a sum over €100 million (£86.1m/$107.7m) which is close to what Benfica expect as compensation.

In Man Utd's last match, a 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, Casemiro was dribbled past eight times, a record this season in the Premier League as per WhoScored.com.

With their seasons all but over, Neves and Casermiro will definitely be turning their attention towards the Euros and Copa America respectively. A good performance for Neves in the competition could see Benfica raise his asking price further this summer.
